Despite what the old cliché suggests, there’s an awful lot to be said for meeting your heroes. After introducing themselves to the world with their glacially beautiful debut Flown, written during the lockdown of 2020, recorded in remote isolation, and released digitally and independently, Norwegian art-rock trio Dim Gray impressed Big Big Train enough to find themselves on the road throughout Europe in support of the international collective, learning the ropes, getting a feel for the whole tour machine, and serving an apprenticeship that has set them on the path to explore and ensnare their own grand ambitions.
Today, as they log on to Zoom from their respectivefirst time, play to vast, established and encouraging crowds every night and, in Høiberg’s case, the chance to cross paths with Jakko Jakszyk from King Crimson, a moment of fanboy heaven.
