A short while ago, I was fortunate enough to watch ’s erstwhile anime expert Helen McCarthy delivering a talk about UK anime fanzines in the pre-broadband era. It was a fascinating look at a history that is seldom discussed and barely preserved, and it even touched on some gaming works such as Onn Lee’s . One particular thing that stuck out to me during the talk was the comment that print fanzines fell by the wayside due to the relative ease of publishing online, as I couldn’t help but reflect on my own path as a writer, going from online fan sites to a professional print publication.
