HORSES have been instrumental in human culture since records began, helping to farm land, transport goods and people, and fight wars, so it's no wonder that horses are still highly celebrated during festivals around the world, especially at Christmas.

A key tradition in Belgium and the Netherlands is “Sinterklaas”, a celebration based on a figure also known as Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of children. He wore a long, red cape and white bishop's alb.
