My list of rules is fairly short for creating food plots to get desired hunting results. I have only 52 acres on my home property, but the things that I’ve done attract and hold deer year-round. You, too, can do a lot on small acreage, including tagging big bucks. Much of this involves breaking up my food plots and forcing bucks to check them out on a regular basis.
RULE #1: Do not have just one food source in an area.
Watch deer as they feed. They will feed in one area a few days, then move on to another food source. With only one area and one food, when deer aren’t eating it, they aren’t there. You’re out of luck.
RULE #2: Do not have just one food plot area.
Your goal is to get that buck or bucks to move during shooting hours and move within good shooting range. But when does are in a single plot, the buck knows the girls are in that one area. He will become more nocturnal because he knows after dark they’re going to be there, and darkness is safer than daylight.
