WITH age most shooters start to struggle to clearly see the front sight of their handgun and it gets worse as time progresses. For the sake of our younger readers: this is caused by a condition called presbyopia, which is the gradual loss of your eyes’ ability to focus on nearby objects. It’s a natural, and, to me, very annoying part of ageing. Presbyopia usually becomes noticeable in your early to mid-40s and continues to worsen until around age 65.

Struggling to see the front sight – the primary requirement to get lead on the target – impairs your shooting, and I have been trying several solutions for this problem. The cheapest, is to use a dab of bright paint on the front sight. I tried a bright orange, and it definitely helps.
