More memory or storage in an M1?
Q When I choose my new M1 Mac, should I get more memory or a bigger SSD?

A Apple silicon models come with special high-speed memory mounted in the M1 chip carrier which can’t be upgraded or replaced, and their internal storage is soldered in, again for performance and security. While you can always add external storage, it’s essential to get both right when you order.
M1 Macs use memory differently from Intel models. They don’t havethe dedicated memory in graphics cards, as they use memory much more efficiently. But you do want to avoid them using ‘swap’ space in storage. For most users, 16GB is a good minimum, rising with your need for more heavyweight apps.
