APPEARANCE
What does it look like?
The female black widow is a black spider with a spherical shiny abdomen. On the lower side of its body, there is a characteristic reddish-orange marking, roughly in the shape of an hourglass. The body is 1.2-1.6cm long, and her legs even longer.
The male is around half the size or less, often lighter, sometimes with small red dots. But males are rarely observed. Only some 12% are successful at finding a female, and the females often eat them after mating, or even before.
