Match worn by Arnold Kirke Smith vs Scotland

The first official England uniform was worn in the maiden showdown between England and Scotland at the West of Scotland Cricket Ground in Glasgow. Incredibly, one of the original garments from the 0-0 draw remains today, sported by Oxford University captain Arnold Kirke Smith who’d previously played for Scotland in an unofficial fixture. This was his only England outing, and the shirt stayed in the family until being sold at auction for £21,000 in 1998. It now lives at the National Football Museum.
