This year is a momentous one for the historic Monza circuit in northern Italy: it’s turning 100. The venue, which holds an exalted place in motorcycle racing history as the first Italian venue to host a round of the nascent world GP championship in 1949, was constructed in just over seven months in 1922 thanks to the tireless efforts of the Automobile Club of Milan and an army of disciplined workers.
The club wanted to mark its 25th anniversary in grand style, and so the blueprint for the Autodromo Nazionale Monza (aka Monza National Auto Drome) was quickly realised.
