Drawing on History

Captivated by museums and antiques since she was a child, Reneé Foster's interests led her to study Early American, Colonial and primitive decorating styles. “I wanted to understand what created comforting appearances of old history,” she recalls. When house hunting, her exacting eye led her to discover her present home in 2015 on the banks of the Fifteen Mile River in Benton, Maine.

The two-story house was custom-built in 2001, and its previous owners installed many extra touches like pine flooring and wide windowsills. With four bedrooms, a living room and a combined kitchen and dining room, the floor plan utilizes every square inch. “When I came into the home, I really loved it,”
