Another bizarro tale from the lopsided imagination), in which a middle-aged couple (Alain Chabat, Léa Drucker) move into their dream house with nightmarish results. “Don't go in the basement!” can be yelled at many genre flicks. But here, what lies beneath is far more weird and, in its own way, disturbing than the usual monster/human remains. It's absurd, thrilling, amusing, bewildering and ultimately very sad, allowing Dupieux to confront the horrors of ageing and the terror of death from peculiar angles.
