I was delighted to see such a good article about the new Gallyon guns and the firm’s innovative approach to shotgun design, engineering and build [A revolution in English gunmaking, October issue]. Under the new ownership, the company clearly respects and combines the best of traditions with 21st-century, state-of-the-art technology.
Cambridge Precision has a space-age factory where computer design and automated machines manufacture parts to an accuracy of a few thousandths of a millimetre. This technology, when applied to these fine guns, which still have a high degree of handcraft applied in the build, has eliminated all faults experienced in some other over-and-unders. However, these modern guns have all the external beauty of a ‘London best’ but with the internal precision of a Swiss watch. More than that, I have had the pleasure of using one on clays and game, and the handling is effortless, optimising hand-eye coordination, with the feel of a finest side-by-side. It is so
