DON’T keep anything in your bag that you wouldn’t be happy to see strewn about because Promised Land will remove every item while searching for treats, according to Jess Paramor, who has looked after 27-year-old Promised Land (stable name Murphy) since 2017.

Tina Fletcher’s Hickstead Derby and Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) puissance winner among other prizes - wasn’t a friendly horse at first, says Jess.

“Now he’s no longer the professional showjumper, he’s a happy horse having fun. So much so that he’s in your face all the time, like a big puppy dog.”

Before Jess decided to retire this gentle giant during lockdown, he was a safe-as-houses hack and taught her lessons which helped her schooling her eventing mare, Bella, whom she acquired at the same time.
