HUAWEI WATCH GT3

£159 FROM CURRYS.CO.UK

If 2023 will finally be the year you adhere to a fitness regime, the Huawei Watch GT3 is the wearable you need. This responsive watch is packed with an impressive array of health-tracking tools and offers truly remarkable battery life of up to two weeks, particularly if you opt for the larger 46mm version.

Aside from supporting more than 100 sports (both indoor and outdoor), the watch’s array of biometric sensors track heart rate, SpO2, skin temperature, stress and sleep. Huawei has given its optical heart-rate monitor an upgrade this time around, and the results are impressive: changes are detected quickly during intense interval training sessions, and accuracy rivals that of dedicated running watches.

There’s support for five satellite navigation systems as well, which should make for more accurate location tracking in areas where there’s a limited line of sight between you and the sky.

GOCUBE 2X2

$50 FROM GETGOCUBE.COM

If you’ve mastered the Rubik’s Cube, buying one that’s merely 2x2 might feel like a dramatic dumbing down, but don’t be fooled. This latest addition to the speed cubing world is still a stiff challenge.

The GoCube’s combination of slightly pillowed faces and stickerless pieces make for a cube that looks and feels great. And, just to make sure you know this is a cube made in the 21st century, internal lighting flashes when you solve it.

The accompanying app provides a decent tutorial, and being able to see your cube’s state on screen helps you work out what moves to make next, which is the biggest advantage a smart cube has over any other puzzle. You’ll spend most of your time in the app’s Solo and Pro Cuber arenas racing to solve the cube as fast as possible, either by yourself or against a random opponent. You definitely won’t have put it down by Boxing Day.
