THE upturn in Natasha Jonas’ professional fortunes has been a pleasure to witness. After plying her trade on undercards and small halls, struggling to generate attention or make progress, she was stopped in four rounds by rank outsider Viviane Obenauf in August 2018. As oblivion beckoned for a boxer who was then already 34, even Jonas loyalists would have struggled to predict where she would be now.

On Saturday night, with the whiff of a potential showdown with all-conquering superstar Claressa Shields in her nostrils, the Liverpudlian – now 38 – aims to add a third sanctioning body super-welterweight strap to her waist when she takes on fellow southpaw, Canada’s Marie Eve Dicaire, inside the Manchester Arena.
