ince its October 21 release, Taylor Swift’s 10th studio album,, has been smashing records and sending Swifties into a spin as they decipher the singer’s signature cryptic references and abundant Easteregg hidden messages. The singer directly let listeners in on the inspiration behind ‘Lavender Haze’, the opening song on the album, telling her 230 million Instagram followers she thought the phrase “sounded cool” when she first. “It turns out that it was a common phrase that was used in the ’50s where they would just describe being in love,” she said, before referencing her six-year relationship with actor Joe Alwyn. “When you’re in the lavender haze, you’ll do anything to stay there and not let people bring you down off of the cloud. This song is about ignoring that stuff to protect the real stuff.”
