DEEP IN THE SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS, before a navy-blue loch and picturesque mountain backdrop, two skateboarders push along an empty road. You have to squint to see them, as theyʼre all but dwarfed by the landscape, yet itʼs still an incongruous sight.
If youʼve ever seen a skateboard movie, youʼll know that nature isnʼt normally front and centre. But that isnʼt the most unlikely thing about A Land for, nor is it the inclusion of the chintzy guesthouse the protagonists stay at or the fact they scope for spots by poring over the contour gradients on an Ordnance Survey map. The most unusual part is that it stars two women skateboarders, Lyndsay McLaren and Hannah Bailey, and was filmed and directed by a woman, Rachel Sarah.
