The term “football junkie” is something you often hear thrown around to describe football players. And sometimes, it’s a term that is overused.
But in the case of tight end Pat Freiermuth, the description is spot on.
Freiermuth loves to study the game. He loves to learn everything he can about the game. He loves to ask questions, and in turn give his feedback, not afraid to talk to the coaches and share his thoughts.
“He likes the learning process. He listens, he has input,” said tight ends coach Alfredo Roberts. “The more we grow together, the more we trust. He is giving more information now, which is good. You must rely on your players. We do certain things, we see certain things, but they play the games. Coaches coach, but players play. His feedback has been tremendous.”
That feedback comes from what Roberts delivers in meetings. It comes from Freiermuth and Roberts talking on the field. It comes from film study.
But those aren’t the only places Freiermuth, the Steelers second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, gains his knowledge.
Freiermuth loves to pick everyone’s brain, gain insight from every source possible. And that includes the defensive side of the ball, those who plan to stop a tight end
