Test: Waldorf Iridium Keyboard

Iridium offers the complex synth engine of Waldorf‘s flagship Quantum in a more compact format, but does without the analog filter. The five synthesis models include wavetables, virtual-analog waveforms, physical modeling in the form of a resonator, multisampling including granular option as well as the kernel mode, which among other things allows 6-operator FM in the style of the DX7. The audio input allows direct sampling as well as real-time processing of external audio, including live granular effects. In addition to the touchscreen, plenty of encoders are supposed to ensure uncomplicated operation. Four CV inputs as well as Gate and Trigger In allow the connection of Eurorack modules.

Chic and robust

Not only the sound generation working inside is premium, but also the outer packaging. The sturdy metal case is designed in a classy black-dark gray, with lighter sides. However, the synthesizer does take up some space with dimensions of 851 x 351 x 110 mm and a decent weight of a good 12 kg. For direct intervention in the sound generation there are over 50 controls, which also have an excellent feel.
