WILDHORSE CUTTING SILVER JUBILEE

What began as a once-off event on private property has endured over 25 years and cemented its place on the Cutting Horse Show calendar for Queensland.

In 1996, as the Atlanta Olympics were being broadcast on the radio, Kim Mayne carted sand to the arena on his cattle property, “Wildhorse”, 30 kilometres south of Rolleston in Central Queensland. This would be home to the Wildhorse Cutting Show for sixteen wonderful years.

Kimbo, as he is known, reminisced at this year’s 25th Anniversary Show that in the mid-1990’s Cutting Shows in Central Queensland were held in Springsure, Rockhampton, Comet and Nebo, and were one day events.

“Four days a year wasn’t enough, so we thought we’d put on another one,” he explained. “It’s how these things happen. It just gets started.”

It is indeed how things get started. A man with an idea, space to work in, and no qualms about putting in the effort required to pull it off. And, of course, the support of his team, wife Karen and their three sons, and a few good mates to lend a hand and offer advice. The original committee consisted of eight people, and together they planned, prepared for, and ran the first Show in April
