RIVALRY is nothing new in the hunting field, nor between packs, but open competition is normally reserved for the summer show ring.

And so, 300 hunting enthusiasts met on a disused airfield near Cirencester on a squally Sunday afternoon and in the finest English manner, a new tradition was seamlessly born. The inaugural TrailHunting Hound Trials, organised by the British Hound Sports Association (BHSA), the newly formed governing body for hunting, featured the Crawley and Horsham, the East Essex and the Cheshire Forest, whose confident performance in wind and rain earned them first prize.
