SHE WAS OUR JOY

THE community centre is filled with people wearing orange outfits – the favourite colour of the little girl they’ve gathered to mourn and remember.

A screen shows a photo montage and video clips of four-year-old Bokgabo Poo doing the things pre-schoolers love to do: singing, dancing and dressing up in her mom’s clothes. The last clip is of her saying “good night”.

Tears flow, but there’s also singing in the hall as the joy she brought to so many is remembered. Speakers take to the podium, promising to do more when it comes to protecting children in the community and calling on the authorities to do better.

For little Bokgabo though, it’s a case of too little, too late. Her murder
