MEDICAL SHOCK I slept for TWO YEARS!

Why is my nose so flat?’ I asked my mum, Leonie, when I was little. ‘It’s because your birth was difficult,’ she explained.

‘The doctor had to use forceps to get you out and your nose got broken.’

It meant that every seven years, I underwent surgery to get the cartilage in my nose reshaped so I could breathe more easily.

I also never developed a sense of smell.

Back home after having my nose surgery, aged 14, I ate cheese and crackers, then headed to bed.
