Callender is Wales’ new tackle machine

WHEN ASKED to describe her personality, Alex Callender says: “On the field, very competitive, a bit brutal. Off the field, quite bubbly.” Brutal and bubbly. It’s quite a contrast, but Rugby World got to see both sides of the Wales back-row in New Zealand during the World Cup.

In her team’s opening fixture against Scotland in Whangarei, when Wales snatched victory with a last-minute Keira Bevan penalty, Callender was a destructive presence across the pitch. She made a remarkable 24 tackles and was a nuisance at the breakdown
