Richard Neville, Earl of Warwick

English, 1428-71

Warwick was an ambitious man who allied with Richard, Duke of York, in his fight for the throne. He continued to fight for the Yorkists after Richard’s death at Wakefield, and was instrumental in Edward IV’s rise to power. He exerted considerable influence over Edward early in his reign, but when the king started becoming more independent and chose to marry Elizabeth Woodville, Warwick switched sides. He married his daughter, Anne, to the Lancastrian Prince of Wales and reinstated Henry VI as king of England in 1470.
