Newly elected Hawkesbury Mayor, Cr Sarah McMahon, sits down with Blue Mountains Life magazine to discuss her background and vision for the region.

BML Tell us how you came to be a local of the region?

SM I was born in Ipswich QLD, as at the time, my father was in the RAAF and was based at Amberley. Being part of a military family, we then lived in Canberra, Townsville and Toowoomba, before Dad was posted to RAAF Base Richmond and we moved to the Hawkesbury when I was ten years old.

We first lived in Bligh Park and I attended St Matthew's Primary School in Windsor. I then completed High School at Bede Polding College, at which time we moved onto RAAF Base Richmond itself and I spent my teen years growing up there.

BML You have a Bachelor of Law and Communications degree. Did you envisage yourself becoming involved in politics and community organisations while studying for those two degrees?
