I have been reading your publication since the first issue. Your recent article in the ‘a word from our sponsors’ regarding the old locally made mod kits to convert the three-on-the-tree to a floor shift prompted me to let you know that the industry for things like that is still alive in the central west of NSW.

Being the owner of a RPO 36 October 1982 XE 5.8-litre four-speed (that appeared in issue # 41) I have owned several 5.8-litre Fords and I have always been disappointed with the horrid shifter movement and gait of the Borg Warner Singlerail four-speed that has been part of the Australian automotive scene since the early 1970s.

As has been the case forever, there has never been a kit to sort the inadequate shift quality of the single rail, although there have been some aftermarket shifter nuts and other parts from time to time.

As there were no shifter kits, I took it upon myself to design one. The design was not too hard; probably worst was finding a machinist who would machine parts and assist in the development of the parts for a kit that would end up being a really good item.
