RESIDENTIAL SINGLE

8 YARD HOUSE STUDIO BRIGHT

Rory Gardiner

A new house for a large family, 8 Yard house reflects a desire to prioritise outdoor spaces as much as indoor. The insertion is seen as a street-healing gesture, replacing an existing dilapidated brick veneer on a double-fronted site that interrupted the procession of terrace house façades of North Fitzroy.

ANDREWS RESIDENCE II MILIEU CREATIVE WITH STYLING BY ARRIVAL HALL

Nicholas Putrasia

Andrews II is a home of well-being, designed to connect its owners with the earth and modern living. Through each aspect of materiality, site direction and spatial planning, the filtering of natural light and airflow, it has been designed as a sensory experience of connection to nature and people.

ARCH DECO HINDLEY & CO

Tatjana Plitt

Tone-on-tone colour and space layering were used to reinvigorate this grand double-storey Heritage house in Balwyn. Hindley & Co amplified the great features of the original house and was playful with referencing them in the contemporary rework full of resonance and change.

ASPECT HOUSE POWELL & GLENN WITH PAUL BANGAY

Sharyn Cairns

Aspect house is a thoughtful rework and extension of a 1909 homestead –solidifying a relationship to place. The existing dwelling drives a sympathetic contemporary response in a southern extension while the interiors honour the integrity of the original home through the oscillating hues and textures of surrounding land and seascape.

AUTUMN HOUSE STUDIO BRIGHT

Rory Gardiner

Autumn house negotiates the need for refuge, retreat and privacy, while also engaging with its urban context. An extension to a Victorian terrace with a 1980s renovation by architect Mick Jörgensen and a mature backyard elm tree, the project adds a new layer carefully stitched into and around these constraints.

AXIS HOUSE LINDA HABAK DESIGN (LHD) WITH STYLING BY OLGA LEWIS

Tom Ferguson

The unique feature of this home is a series of stacked ‘blocks’ on varying axes to maximise natural light. The hero is the elegantly curved services pod that is not only functional, but also houses the kitchen, butler’s pantry and powder room. It reads as a beautiful object in the space.
