Everyone has heard of the conundrum ‘which came first, the chicken or the egg’ with its implication there is no real correct answer, or not a simple one at least. Now, while talk of chickens and eggs may seem odd in a motorcycle feature the premise behind the conundrum is how do you make a choice, and the factors behind the choice made. Do you, for instance get hold of your dream or ideal machine then find somewhere to race it, or do you look at where you want to race then seek out a machine to meet class or series requirements?
Sometimes these choices are quite straightforward – you buy, say, a 500, and you know the 250 class is closed to you, or if the 250 class is what you want to race in then you don’t look at bigger bikes…
