You may recall us addressing loot box debacle in review. “Whatever happens next,” we concluded, “we don’t patch review scores.” Well, we came close to doing precisely that in following a discussion about in light of its server outages – effectively rendering it unplayable for more than 24 hours – and aggressive microtransactions. The latter were clearly set to be introduced shortly after our review went to press, though at the time we had no idea of the pricing structure. Nor could we have foreseen that Polyphony Digital would subsequently make the situation worse, reducing rewards for certain races to ensure players couldn’t grind them to quickly amass credits to afford the most expensive cars. The game’s plummeting Metacritic user score told its own story. (One reader accused us of having not played the game.
