The title track’s rousing fanfare is a fittingly grandiose introduction to a game for which most of us have had to wait three decades. Never released outside Japan until now, could easily be mistaken by the uninitiated for a brand-new game: it feel refreshingly modern, partly because its influence can be felt in a number of contemporary JRPGs, including Square Enix’s own Both games use the company’s patented HD-2D aesthetic, with narratives structured around multiple protagonists. The key point of difference is that, where strains to make a story set across a single continent feel cohesive, heroes are separated in time and place
