HIGH HOPES DASHED

Ipromised I’d stick to the Riboldis and not veer off piste, but Louisa Riboldi, née Bunting, wife of my 3x great-uncle Dominick, is about to lead me astray. Nevertheless, she is a Riboldi now by marriage, I tell myself.

I’d love to know what happened to her – married at the tender age of 15 or 16 and widowed by 27 – and where she came from.

I also think I’ve a soft spot for little Louisa because my late grandma, before she married, was Louisa Riboldi, too. Strange how a name can echo and call to you down the years…
