Can a DNA surname project help me?
This month, Karen Evans helps Sarah work out whether a DNA surname project could help her push past a brick wall that has her stuck in the year 1815 on her Howarth family tree
SARAH WRITES:
Dear Karen, I have been working on our Howarth Family tree for some years with Ancestry. com (which l found very clear, comprehensive and easy to use) but stopped it because l couldn’t get any further than my 4x greatgrandfather Thomas Howarth b. 1815 in Lancashire.
So when l heard of the Haworth-Howarth-Heywood DNA Surname Project l thought that there was a chance l could take our tree further back and through DNA samples. For example my brother ‘Sam’s’ Y-DNA might help.
So l gave my brother the FamilyTreeDNA Y-111 test.
However, we find this website utterly incomprehensible!
Sam and l are in our 70s and still fairly bright, but neither of us can work it out… l have spent far too many hours trying, but l can’t see myself persevering with it, which is a shame, as l was so hopeful.
