I feel I’m scrabbling around in the dark half the time, searching for my Riboldis in America. For every squeal of delight, there’s a wail of despair.
The delight when I realise that for much of the 19th century, New York State took its own census midway between the US Federal Censuses, which means, in theory, a household update every five years instead of 10 – hurrah! The despair I’ll come on to shortly…
So, we left the four Riboldi siblings, my 3x great-uncles and aunt, on the
