The Royal Observatory
The Royal Observatory in Greenwich Park, south-east London, is the grande dame of celestial lookouts. Commissioned in 1675 by Charles II, who also established the role of Astronomer Royal, the Royal Observatory has played a pivotal role in the history of astronomy, and in explorations of time and space – the Prime Meridian passes through the site, giving Greenwich Mean Time
