■ Plaster mould – see ‘Before you Begin’
■ Stiff card and tracing paper, pencil
■ Clay of choice – earthenware or stoneware – use a white body if you want bright colours
■ Rolling pin, 5mm thick roller guides, plastic sheet
■ Selection of stiff and soft ribs/kidneys
■ Pin
■ Underglaze colours of choice
■ Brushes in a selection of sizes
■ Transparent glaze
For this project, we’re using a deep bowl mould with a narrow base. You can make a model to cast in plaster for a bowl like this by centering a large block of clay on a batt (on the wheel) then turning the shape to your chosen dimensions.

Alternatively, you may be able to find a similarly shaped bowl in a charity shop or car boot sale that could be used as a model following the instructions on our website.
