    You will need:

    ■ Clay of choice earthenware or stoneware, preferably white if you want a bright colour response once glazed

    ■ Sketchbook, pencil, card to make templates, craft knife

    ■ Rolling pin, 5mm-thick roller guides, plastic sheet

    ■ Ribs, tools and pony roller for finishing

    ■ Short lengths of batten, dowelling etc for impressing feature details

    ■ Glazes of choice to decorate – suitable for clay type

    1 Draw out a row of simple house shapes in your sketchbook. Vary the shape and proportion of each house so that they are all different but sit beside each other in a balanced way.
