Note this is a window box, not a planter, because it doesn’t have drainage holes. If you want to make yours into a planter for outside, you could make drainage holes in the underside once the form has been completed.
The size of your window box will depend on the size of your kiln, so make sure you check these dimensions before you begin. If your kiln won’t accommodate a long box, simply make two smaller ones (or even three) that can sit side by side on the windowsill.
■ Clay of choice – earthenware or stoneware, preferably white firing
■ Rolling pin, roller guides (2-3mm, 5mm and 10mm), plastic sheet
■ 2-3cm batten, pony roller
■ Paper and card to make templates – pencil and craft knife
■ Source material images, sketchbook
■ Shaped cutters (optional)
■ Small stamps – MKM have a great selection but found objects also work well
■ Chunky wood blocks (optional)
■ Underglaze in a dark shade if you want to decorate as shown
■ Transparent coloured glaze
