THE SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE

My golfing taste buds were tickled more tantalisingly then ever last year with the suggestion of a trip to play not just a selection of the golf courses on Scotland’s Golf Coast in East Lothian, but all of them! This 30-mile golfing utopia is said to have the largest concentration of championship links anywhere in the world.

The trip would see me return to a few of the best courses in the UK, tick off several that had been on my hit list for way too long and play others about which I knew nothing. A total of 21 courses in one hit is a very big ask, and the October weather is not always guaranteed to cooperate.

Happily, I was able to leave the organising to old industry friend Graham Hesketh, who pieced together an intricate timetable of unlikely cunning that would also take in a selection of the excellent accommodation in the area…
