to step away from Deep Purple, ending 28 years as the guitarist with the group. Back in April, Morse took leave of absence from the band’s touring commitments to look after his wife Janine, who is battling cancer. It was understood, or at least hoped, that he would be returning. To that end, Purple brought in Simon McBride – the Irishman was a good fit, having previously worked in the solo bands of both singer Ian Gillan and keyboard player Don Airey – to fill in temporarily.
