Talking to a Monster

Iwasn’t even looking for a Ducati, but there it was: sat in the corner of the most unexpected of places – former/fellow CMM contributor Scottie Redmond’s breakers yard, an intact and shiny red Ducati Monster.

I’m not an expert on Italian bikes, and definitely not an expert in the confusing lineage that the Monster has followed, but I know what I like, and seeing a pair of Marchesini wheels with the rear attached only by a single-sided swingarm, along with a pair of high-level carbon-fibre Termignonis was enough to get me on the hook. It ticked a box I’d needed ticking for a while – something I can do most of my miles on, meaning road and track work, but with a bit of character, a bit of cool, and a decent resale value.

This thing was very, very pretty; I didn’t think too long before I decided I’d have a punt. Deal done!
