1998 was a pretty eventful year. The summer was a bit of a scorcher, work began on the Millennium Dome, the DVD format officially went on sale, and we saw the fresh new two-tone £2 coins for the first time. Geri Halliwell’s Union Jack dress soldwhile HMV started stocking the boxfresh Capturing the zeitgeist as ever, we had a full-on kustom Mini on the cover - chopped, dropped, ready to rock… 1 2 3 4 Channelling the spirit of the seventies and updating it with some nineties flair, this kustom was a bonkers little tearaway with an aggressive attitude and creativity in spades. Starting life as a humble 850, the body was fully de-seamed and roof-chopped, and treated to myriad one-off tricks including suicide doors, Fiat Brava taillights, Volvo headlamp wipers, bespoke steel arches and boxed-in Datsun sills, painted in Rover Tahiti Blue over pearlescent orange. The amount of work involved in the creation of this show-stopping stunner is frankly mind-boggling. Sadly, the DVLA’s records suggest that this car stopped existing sometime around 2004.
