Those who know their YouTube and Truefire online courses will no doubt have discovered the musical delights of Tim Lerch. From the Pacific Northwest of America,Tim is a fine jazz and blues guitarist and his website is packed with materials to help you improve your guitar skills. For this issue’s bespoke performance, Tim has taken a jazz style approach using his 1951 Gibson ES 350, whose neck pickup provides a classic tone reminiscent of players like Charlie Christian, Wes Montgomery and Joe Pass. The chords and groove used in Jason’s piece Soul And Roll give it a Steely Dan vibe with a hint of classic Quincy Jones R&B. As Tim explains, the track has no explicit ‘home base’ key -EMajor is the most ‘home’ even though it doesn’t occur a lot. But there’s plenty of chord movement
