The real world
Sorry if I’m a bit late on parade, but I’ve just read Geoff Harris’s Viewpoint about photojournalism in your 20 September edition. He laments the threat to this posed by a modern culture that seems to favour comfort and fantasy over uncomfortable reality. So much contemporary photography now inhabits that culture, and, sadly, that often includes club photography, even at its best.
Of course, there is a place for escapism, but, alas, there is no real escape from the real world. As we know with climate change, horror intrudes whether we like it or not. And there is a duty to bring it to our attention. Our values and very survival as a species depend on
