The Hummingbird appeared in 1960 and is regarded as the first Martin-esque square-shouldered Gibson acoustic guitar (as opposed to the classic round-shouldered Jumbo design). But it wasn’t the first square-shouldered dreadnought/D-style flat-top in production at the company’s Kalamazoo factory. That honour goes to the Epiphone FT-110 Frontier manufactured from 1958.
