Self-builder surge

More people than ever before are looking to self-build, according to the latest data from the national custom and self-build registers. The figures, based on data reported by local authorities for the period between 31 October 2020 and 30 October 2021, show that 12,263 new individuals joined the register, in the hope of obtaining a serviced plot. This is an increase of 31% from the previous period. A total of 58,813 people are now said to be on the register, an increase of 25% from a year earlier. Notably, however, only 8,309 planning permissions
