We had been living in our home for about nine years and were running an oil-fired central heating system — though we’re not rural, at the time that our 1980s home was built it came with electrical storage heaters. Over the years many of these homes were subsequently fitted with a wet central heating system and oil or LPG gas boilers, and ours was one such property.
