WINTER SURVIVAL GUIDE

Warm banks are shameful yet essential. Here’s how to find your nearest if you’re struggling to keep warm this winter

Low-income households may now face an uncertain future in the long-term after Chancellor Jeremy Hunt announced the government’s energy bill support would be reduced in April rather than in two years.

But in the short term, warm banks remain a bleak necessity. So new campaign Warm Welcome has launched a virtual map to help people find their nearest warm bank.

More than 660 churches, community groups, businesses and councils across the UK have already opened a warm bank and, with 1,600 organisations registered with Warm Welcome, many more are set to open their doors in November.

David Barclay, Warm Welcome’s campaign coordinator, said: “It’s tragic that Warm Welcome spaces are required, but it’s heartening to see organisations stepping up and working together to provide a joined-up, nation-wide response.”
