The MPX outbreak of 2022 has disproportionately affected gay and bisexual men. But fortunately, there are many researchers, including members of the LGBTQ+ community, that are working hard to stop the spread.

One leading figure is Keletso Makofane, PhD, a public health researcher and activist at the François-Xavier Bagnoud Center for Health and Human Rights at Harvard University. Makofane’s main research focus is the global HIV response among sexual minority men in eastern and southern Africa. But this year, he pivoted to MPX.
