MICHELE’S TOP TIPS

• Consider the fundamental elements when drawing out the still life. Composition• Consider creating different marks while adjusting the way your hold your pastel pencil. • Take time to draw out the initial sketch, double checking the composition is right for what you want to say before starting with colour. • Consider the shadows and the shapes they make as well as the softened edges. • Look very closely at texture when drawing different materials like wood, plastic, paper, metal. • Think about the elements in relation to each other as well as individually. • Think about your still life in layers, working from big to small, adding the tiny details and strongest highlights last.
